Bohdan Shumylovych

Art historian, curator, facilitator

Shumylovych received a master’s degree in modern and contemporary history (Central European University, Department of History, Budapest, Hungary), a specialist degree in Art History (Lviv Academy of Arts, Department of History and Theory of Art, Lviv, Ukraine), studied art management within the Junior Faculty Development Program at the George Washington University (Washington DC, USA). Shumylovych studied and taught cultural and visual studies at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (MA in cultural studies), lectured both in Ukraine and abroad, received grants of several grant programs. He worked in visual archives in Washington (visual library of the Art History Department, George Washington University) and Budapest (Open Society Institute archive).

Shumylovych heads Lviv Municipal Media Library of the Center for Urban History, curates the media library of the Center for Urban History of Eastern-Central Europe (Lviv, Ukraine). He is an avid lecturer, curator and researcher of urban cultures, media archives, media digitalization and contemporary Ukrainian art.

As a theorist of urban renewal and developer of urban cultural industries, Shumylovych was offered by the Lviv City Council to become a head of the Marketing and Cultural Industries Division, Department of Culture and Tourism.
