All-Ukrainian Open Contest for the Young Artists GRANT UART is a flagship of the Foundation for Cultural Diplomacy.

The Contest  aims to support and promote young Ukrainian artists and integrate them into the world art space.

According to the concept of the Contest, final takes place in a different country each year. First final had been held in 2013 in Paris, drawing attention of both Ukrainian and French media.

The International Panel in 2013 included:

  • Katia TOLEDANO, wife of Sidney Toledano, CEO of the Christian Dior Couture, known for her vivid interest in contemporary art;
  • Pierre DUMONTEIL, founder of his influential namesake gallery;
  • Gérard RANCINAN, a world famous photographer;
  • Didier Krzentowski , passionate collector of contemporary art and design, founder of the Kreo gallery;
  • Rodolphe VON GOMBERGH, a non-typical figure at the world of contemporary art, both an artist and a renowned scientist;
  • Benedicte BURRUS, exhibition curator at the Thaddaeus Ropac gallery;
  • Alexis MABILLE, one of the artistic geniuses of the French fashion, known for his haute couture and prêt-à-porter collections;
  • Pierre NOUVION, contemporary art collector, head of the Grimaldi Forum, administrator and president of the Scientific Committee of the New National Museum of Monaco.

In 2013 expert council chose 5 finalists out of 512 contest participants. 19 years old Nicolas Tolmachev became a winner and received the grant amounting 20 000 euro to study in France.

The capital hosting 2014 final is Vienna. Eligible to participate are artists (painting, graphic art, plastic art, photography, installation), aged 20 to 35, who should be citizens of Ukraine.  Participation is free. Applications are accepted from April 23th to June 23th 2014.

On the first stage the finalist will be chosen by the Ukrainian Expert Council (curators, art critics, gallerists and journalists). Members of the Council are: Olga Balashova, Oksana Barshynova, Victoria Burlaka, Liza German, Natalia Ivanova, Evhen Karas, Vlodko Kaufmann, Maria Lanko, Ianina Prudenko, Mikhail Rashkovetsky, Oleksandr Soloviov, Kateryna Stukalova, Tetiana Tumasian, Olena Chervonik, Bohdan Shumylovych, Marina Shcherbenko.

On the second stage in the late August International Panel selects 5 grant recipients. Members of the International Panel are: Patrizia Sandretto, Dianne Beal, Christina Steinbrecher.

Grant recipients take part in VIENNAFAIR in October 2014. The works of young artists will be exhibited in Ukrainian Pavilion of this significant art event. By the end of the year the catalogue of winner’s works will be published and exhibition of their works will be held in Kyiv.

GRANT UART is a Contest  that gives young artists a chance to demonstrate their art to Ukraine and world.
